Shortly after graduation, I moved to
Spencer IA to be with my older brother. In 1959, I moved
to Des Moines IA (beginning a lifetime of moving).
In 1960, I went to Binghamton NY and attended college for a year.
But most important of all, here I
met a lovely young woman from Wisconsin by the name of Pat Skinner.
I fell madly in love and we were married in Mauston WI in 196l. This
past November, we celebrated thirty-seven years of love and marriage.
We lived in Des Moines and Omaha for
the next few years where I worked at various jobs.
In 1969, I answered an ad for a police
officer in Plattsmouth NB (apparently the only qualification was a willingness
to work for $390 a month) I thus began a 25 year career in emergency
services work,
working variously as a police officer, firefighter, and
emergency medical technichian in Plattsmouth, Nashville, TN, and northwest
IN (just outside of Chicago). I also managed to graduate from college
in 1976.
In 1990, I went to work for Amoco
Oil at their big refinery in Whiting, IN and continue there today.
In addition I work as a CPR and First Aid instructor at Purdue Calumet,
as well as various other places.
Last Fall, I was on the local PBS TV station for a 30
minute documentary on CPR.
Pat and I travel a lot: Nashville,
Austin, TX, Wisconsin, in the last year (wherever there's live music).
For fun, we enjoy running around Chicago,
and dancing there almost every week. I also do a lot of reading and
Pat is the computer nut of the family.
We are both in excellent health, and
very much into enjoying life.
Pat and I are greatly blessed with
4 great children, Connie age 35, married and has three children of her
own. She lives in TX. Jackie our second daughter age, she has one son and
lives in this area. Terri our third daughter is age 31 and lives just north
of us and then our only son, Tom, age 28, married and has three children.
Him and his family live about 50 miles of us.
